Your insider guide to Lille
Written by a local. For British visitors who actually want to know.I’ve lived just south of Lille for several years now — in Templeuve-en-Pévèle, on the Paris-Roubaix route, which tells you something about my priorities. Before that I spent decades editing cycling magazines. Neither of those facts qualifies me as a tourism professional, which is probably why this site is useful.
Lille is 80 minutes from London St Pancras by Eurostar. It is the fifth-largest city in France, the youngest by average age, the capital of French Flanders, and — with Brussels 35 minutes away and Paris under an hour — one of the best-connected cities in northern Europe. It is also, somehow, still underrated by British visitors who tend to blow straight through on their way elsewhere.
That is their loss. This site exists to fix the problem.
